Using the Early Warning System
Early Warning System allows an instructor to create rules for their
course and generate warning e-mails to be sent to students if they fail to
meet expectations. For example, if the student receives below a
certain
grade on a Blackboard quiz, a warning will be generated if a grade rule exists.
Here are some steps for using the Early
Warning System.
Setting up a Rule - Log into
Blackboard and proceed to your course site
- Click on the Control Panel link
- Click on Early Warning System in the Assessment section
- There are three different types of rules: Grade, Due Date, and
Last Access. Click on the button for the rule that fits your
needs
- Enter a name for your rule in the Rule Name text field
- Enter the specifics of your rule in the Rule Criteria section.
For example, for a Grade Rule, you will specify the Gradebook
item and whether it is greater than, less than or equal
to a specific score
- Click the Submit button

- Check the radio box next to each student that you wish to send
the warning to, then select Student Users Only from the
